What is the point for Canon to just share the raw format specification with the big raw developers like Adobe/Capture One/DXO and not with all developers? It looks like the ability to read the CR3 format may be available in freshly-compiled distributions of darktable soon, at least for some cameras. cr3 files generated by the new canon eos r5 does not seem to be correct. Here I show how the quality of Darktable handles canon CR3 files with this custom build of D Canon CR3 raw files are currently not supported. Most likely it is just a problem of updating the raw format reading routine CR3 to JPG Converter. You can also open CR3 files in Canon Digital Photo Professional and convert them to other formats. Better metadata handling (thanks to the exiv2 and exiftool libraries), with (optional) support for reading and writing XMP sidecar files.
